AN ANALYSIS OF TIME ORDER VARIETIES USED BY STUDENTS IN WRITING NARRATIVE TEXT AT THE FOURTH SEMESTER OF TBI DEPARTMENT IAIN MADURA

In writing subject, there are some materials that intended to explore the students’ writing skill; one of them is writing a narrative. It is consist of some generic structure, and also time order to connect the narrative paragraph their narrative. The common problem that faced by student is selecting time order itself.
Time order varieties usually used by student depend on the context or the situation of the story, that is why in selecting time order is commonly makes the students confused, because they have to select the suitable with the situation and the order of event in a story.
There are three focuses in this research; What are the varieties of time order used by students in writing narrative text, what are the problems encountered by the students in selectingsuitable time order in writing narrative text and how to overcome the problems encountered by the students in selectingsuitable time order in writing narrative text at fourth semester of TBI Department IAIN Madura.
In this research use qualitative approach, and use descriptivequalitative research. Therefore, the research instrument can divide a procedure to collect data by these steps: observation, interview, and documentation.
The result of the research above, the students’ write their narrative text without considering the variety of time order used in their narrative. It was proved by the variety of time order that they used. The common time order that mostly used were; ’once upon time’, when…’, ‘after that’, ‘the last…’, ‘one day’, ‘until know’, ‘suddenly’, ‘previously’, ‘in the morning’, ‘after being’, ‘a few days later’, one years later’, ‘every year’, ‘shortly after that’, ‘since the even’, ‘in the middle of’, ‘the next day’, and ‘since’. It was appeared because of no further attention from the teacher to care about that. Besides that, the problems encountered by the students to select time order in writing narrative text mostly related about their sight in knowing the time order itself, they have limited vocabulary exactly. By the ways formulated by researcher hopefully the students can easier to overcome their problems.
Based on the result above, it is suggested to further researcher, if you want to make next research, this thesis can be used as reference to reach a study and teach English, especially in teaching writing. While go the English lecturer, the lecturer should increase their attention to give explanation more about the usage of time order and it variety in writing subject.
