THE ANALYSIS OF MAIN CHARACTER’S EDUCATIONAL VALUE IN DAN BROWN’S INFERNO NOVEL BASED ON EKO HANDOYO PERSPECTIVE

The introduction of educational values, the realization of the
importance, and the implementation in daily life are needed for the next
generation to prevent the degeneration of morality in Indonesia. A novel is one of
the easiest ways to educate the values in formal or informal education.
There are two problem statements in this study. The first problem is
whether there are educational values that main character showed in Inferno novel
by Dan Brown. The second problem is how the main character conveyed the
educational values in Inferno novel.
The purpose of this study is to find the main character’s educational values
in Inferno novel and analysis the main character’s educational values conveyance
in the novel. This research used library research method, it also used
psychological and objective approach in the process. The data were collected from
Inferno novel as primary source, other related topic books and educational
websites as secondary sources.
The result showed that there are forty five educational values that the main
character showed in the Inferno novel. These educational values are conveyed
indirectly by the author through the main character’s characterization. Based on
this research, the teachers are suggested to educate and encourage educational
values using novel as teaching media. For other researcher, it is suggested to do
further research and analyze this novel with different point of views and aspects.
For readers, it is expected to apply the educational values and encourage them to
others aswell.
