AN ANALYSIS OF SARCASM LANGUAGE OF CHELSEA GRIN’S SONG LYRICS IN “SELF-INFLICTED” ALBUM

Sarcasm is kind of figurative language and constitute a language contradiction. Because, language that using Sarcastic people more be incisive & conveyed directly with the abusive language. Because the language contains bitterness, is hurtful, and unpleasant to hear. For example: Your Mouth, Your Tiger!, Your behavior embarrasses us. Indeed you are not greedy, the meat and its bones are sold out.
Self-inflicted is the fifth album studio of Chelsea Grin. From 12 songs in this album, there are 7 songs that contains sarcasm language. The seven song title that contain sarcasm is life sentence, strung out, broken bonds, clickbait, skin deep, love song, and say goodbye. Sarcasm that using in 7 song lyrics reference to “lexical sarcasm”. A lexical sarcasm most naturally targets expressions which denote the extreme end of a conventionally-associated, normatively-loaded scale expressions like ‘brilliant’, ‘inspired, ‘genius’, ‘diplomat’, and ‘thrilled’ so that the sarcastic inversion contributes a value at the scale’s extreme other end.
The kind of research is library research. Library research utilize the library sources to obtain research data. Specifically the library research limits it’s activities only on library materials only without the need for field research. Because the data taken is text. That’s why this approach is taken. Nevertheless, what their proponents call qualitative approaches to content analysis offer some alternative protocols for exploring texts systematically. To collect the data, in this study the researcher using observation and documentation. Observation that researher take is text observation. Namely observed the song lyrics that contain sarcasm then analyzed word by word. And documentation, when the data has been collected, then the seventh song analyzed one by one.
From the seven song lyrics that has been researcher analysis, the seven song lyrics using four kinds of sarcasm. But, in seven song lyrics most of them is using lexical sarcasm. Because of the sentence in seven song lyrics reference to lexical sarcasm. Such as, in life sentence lyrics namely “pretend to be a better man, but you’re just a fake”. Your whole life is fake. This sentence directly toward to satirize. Similar with definition of lexical sarcasm.
