One of English Components taught to the students is vocabulary because it has a primary role for all language skills. It is also the aspects that espouse someone in mastering English, because the more vocabularies they have the more confident and more fluent their speaking will be and the more they master the vocabularies, the better their performances in all aspects of English Language will be. All of these aspects are learned together. They are attached one to another.
This thesis is to correlate vocabulary mastery and speaking skill because it is one of the components of speaking skill. As David says “Vocabulary is a set of words and its meaning that help someone easy to choose the diction and make the conversation becomes fluently and understandable by the partner of speaking”. From this theory, the researcher makes the research problems to prove the truth of the theory. The research problems are: “Is there any correlation between beginner students’ vocabulary mastery and their speaking skill at Sabilillah English Course Dormitory Sampang?” and the second is “How significant is the correlation between beginner students’ vocabulary mastery and their speaking skill at Sabilillah English Course Dormitory Sampang?”. This research problems are to measure the correlation between beginner students’ vocabulary mastery and their speaking skill at Sabilillah English Course Dormitory Sampang and to measure the significant correlation between beginner students’ vocabulary mastery and their speaking skill at Sabilillah English Course Dormitory Sampang.
This research uses quantitative research approach to explain the relationshiop among variables. The researcher uses non-experimental research design namely correlational design because the researcher wants to describe and measure the degree of association (or relation) between two or more variables or sets of scores. The population of this research is students of beginner class namely Simple Speaking Class at Sabilillah English Course Dormitory Sampang. The sample of this research is all beginner students which consist of 20 students. To choose the sample, the researcher uses population sampling that all students in population become the sample of this research. To get the data of the sample, the researcher uses the test to know the students’ vocabulary mastery and speaking skill and documentation to know the score of both the test. To analyze the data, the researcher uses r product moment to know the correlation of both variables.
