Grammar is partly the study of what forms (or structure) are possible in a language. It is very crucial to comprehend especially for students since grammar (including present perfect tense) is applied in every skill of English; listening, speaking, reading, and writing skill. Present perfect tense is one of sixty tenses that talk about a period of time that continues up to present. To motivate students in learning present perfect tense, teacher implemented a technique which is considered as an appropriate technique in the learning of present perfect tense; moving interview technique was manifested by the English teacher to the students’ learning of present perfect tense in the ninth grade at SMP Plus Al-Imamah Oray Pamoroh Kadur Pamekasan.
There are two research focuses in this study; those are, how the teacher implements moving interview technique in teaching present perfect tense in the ninth grade at SMP Plus Al-Imamah Oray and what the obstacles faced by teacher in implementing moving interview technique to the students’ learning of present perfect tense in the ninth grade at SMP Plus Al-Imamah Oray.
In this research, researcher uses qualitative research approach and kind of research used is descriptive research. Meanwhile, the data sources are the English teacher in the ninth grade and sixty students of the ninth grade. In collecting the data, researcher used some procedures; those are observation, interviewing, and document or artifact analysis. Furthermore, researcher analyzed the obtained data by three steps; those are data reduction, data display, and conclusion drawing/verification. In addition to that, researcher used source triangulation to obtain the validity of data.
The result of research showed that moving interview technique was manifested for two meetings. The first meeting was implemented by using three steps; those are pre-teaching, whilst teaching, and post-teaching. Meanwhile, the second meeting was implemented by using four steps; those are out of teaching, pre-teaching, whilst teaching, and post-teaching. By implementing the technique, the students could understand the rule of present perfect tense easily and enjoyably. However, in moving interview technique, some students are off-putting in the activity. There is an obstacle faced by teacher that is time limitation, in which the duration for students in answering the question had consumed a long time especially for students who showed that they’re lack of enthusiasm in learning.
Based on the result above, it is suggested for the English teacher to manage the time wisely especially in moving interview technique activity since there are many steps which have to be manifested systematically to acquire study objectives, moreover, the duration of learning is influence the material presented to the students. In addition to that, the teacher should organize the presentation impressively such as keeping eye contact with students to attract their attention or using a little refreshing joke in the classroom to disappear any off-putting atmosphere.
