THE IMPLEMENTATION OF SILENT WAY METHOD IN LISTENING CLASS AT 2ND SEMESTER ENGLISH DEPARTMENT STUDENTS OF STAIN PAMEKASAN

The word of method is a popular word in educational world . In elementary school up to senior high school even in college, this word is familiar when teacher conducts a class.Silent way method is one of methods that is used by the teacher in conducting the class, especially listening class. Although in the beginning of the development silent way method is used to teach reading and speaking, the teacher has their own strategy to implement this method in listening class.
The focus of this study include the implementation of silent way method in listening class at 2nd semester English department students of STAIN Pamekasan, the lecturer's problem when implemented silent way method in listening class, and the students' problem when the lecturer implemented silent way method in listening.class at 2nd semester English .department students of STAIN Pamekasan.
This research uses qualitative approach. The data obtained by observation, interview, and documentation and it were analyzed with descriptive analysis,then it is checked for validity by triangulation.
Based on research result, it showed that the implementation of silent way method in listening class at 2"d semester English department students of STAIN Pamekasan is included some steps, they are: first is called pre-teaching, the lecturer gives brainstorming to the students in order to make the students predict what they will hear, the second is whilst-teaching, the lecturer played the textbook recording and the students listen to the material and the last is post-teaching, the lecturer gives information about next topic to the students. While, the problem that faced by the lecturer includes the difficulties in finding the original source of listening, the students need more input from the lecturer because some of them do not like to listen, and the last is the students have lack of vocabularies. In the students' side, the problem that occur are the students feel difficult to comprehend the material well because they think that the recording which is played by the lecturer is too fast and unclear. Besides,they did not accustom with the way of native speaker's speak because of the difference of the accent.
Based on the result above, it is suggested for the lecturer should be creative in combining the method and planning the activity in listening class besides, the lecturer should use the other source of listening such as song, movie, and others. For the students, it is suggested to practice their listening ability and make preparation before came into listening class.
