A STUDY BETWEEN MALE AND FEMALE STUDENTS IN GRAMMAR ACHIEVEMENT AT THE ELEVENTH GRADE OF SCIENCE CLASS MAN PAMEKASAN

The differences between male and female students becomes the interesting topics in English language learning. This situation is also happened in MAN Pamekasan because the students consists of male and female. Female students tend to be better in their reading and writing skill. Beside that they are better at expressing emotions and remembering the details of emotional events. While males appear to be better at computing compositional rules.
Based on those differences, the researcher feels interested to conduct a research. Two problems in this research are is there any differences between male and female students in grammar achievement and is there any statistically significant difference between male and female students in grammar achievement at the eleventh grade of science class MAN Pamekasan. While the objectives of study of this research are to know the differences between male and female students in grammar achievement and to measure the statistical significant difference between male and female students in grammar achievement at the eleventh grade of science class MAN Pamekasan. In this research, the researcher uses alternative hypothesis that stated there is a differences between male and female students in grammar achievement at the eleventh grade of science class .MAN Pamekasan.
This research uses ex-post facto design, which is going to know the differences between male and female students as X variable and grammar achievement as Y variable. The population of this research is the eleventh grade of science class MAN Pamekasan that consists of 230 students. The researcher took sample by using stratified sampling because this research consists of two groups, namely male and female students. So, the researcher chooses 23 students of male and 23 students of female to represent each group.
Test and documentation are the research instruments. Then, the data obtained will be analyzed by using t-test formula. After analyzing the data, the result showed that the alternative hypothesis of this research is rejected. It means that the null hypothesis is accepted. It can be proven by the result of t-value (to) is lower than t-table in the degree of freedom 44 since in significant level 5% which is 2,02 (-1,696 < 2,02) and in significant level 1% is 2,69 02 (-1,696 < 2,69).
The result of this research is important for the teacher to know the differences of students' abilities and students' achievement. The researcher hopes that the teacher is able to help the students in improving English especially grammar as one of its component. And for students, it is suggested to read more and exersice more about grammar, so they can improve themselves in comprehending grammar. For further researcher, the result of this research is able to be used as references if they want to conduct the research next time.
