Vocabulary is one of the important element of language skill development in order to master the target language. The mastery of language is very much influenced by the amount of vocabulary acquisition. As Swam and Watter state that Vocabulary acquisition is the largest and the most important task facing the language learner, with limited vocabulary the students will also have limited understanding in term speaking, listening, writting, reading including reading comprehension. This is a quantitative research. There are two problems in this research. First, Is there any correlation between vocabulary mastery and students' reading comprehension at third semester students of English Teaching Learning Program STAIN Pamekasan. Second, how the statistical significant correlation between vocabulary mastery and students' reading comprehension at third semester students of English Teaching Learning Program STAIN Pamekasan. Based on the two problems of study, there are two objectives of study. The first, to find out of the correlation between vocabulary mastery and students' reading comprehension at third semester students of EngJish Teaching Leaming Program STAJN Pamekasan and the second to know the significant correlation between vocabulary mastery and students' reading comprehension at third semester students of English Teaching Leaming Program STAIN Pamekasan.
The population of this research is third semester students of English Teaching Learning Program STAIN Pamekasan which consist of 181 students. The researcher takes 20% population based on Arikuntos statement that ifthe population is large or more than 100,the researcher can take 10-15% or 20-251>/o. So, the sample is ·20%.
