THE ANALYSIS OF HESITATION ENGLISH SPEAKING AT SECOND SEMESTER STUDENTS OF ENGLISH TEACHING LEARNING PROGRAM IN STAIN PAMEKASAN

Communication is a way to interact with fellow human beings. It means
that a language have function to persuade others in social interaction that
happened a communication, a language caused by speaking.In the process of
speaking will be a process of understanding and producing speech in the form of a
sentence, how it uttered sentence and also in the production process sentences
sometimes the speaker will produce utterances that do not have with the sense of
linguistic or un-lexical during the speech. In addition to, when speaker English
speaking is often sudden change their thoughts on certain things that had initially
intended to convey ,this is which makes the lack of launch in speaking so this will
affect the word to be speaker uttered it is this which will lead to hesitation on
while speaking in short hesitation usually happens in their speaking. It is the
activity of pause in producing the sound or utterance caused by some factors. It
usually happens in spontaneous speaking. This study investigates aiming at
analysing the types of hesitation English speaking, at second semester students of
English teaching learning program in stain pamekasan, especially in speaking
class, how hesitations English speaking occur to them, and how they overcome it.
To answer the research question, the researcher uses Trevor A. Harley’s
perspective to identify and analyze types of hesitation. In conducting this research,
the researcher uses Qualitative Approach designed by Descriptive Research
Design and the data were collected by recording the utterance of the students.
Interview and observation are choosen to be a main instrument, and
documentation as a supporting instrument. For the interview, the researcher uses
unstructured interview by asking prepared questions based on situation and
condition of informants.
From the result of research, the researcher finally found that there are six
of hesitation’s type in utterances of students, such as: : filled pause (lexicalized
and un lexicalized), silent pause, self-correction, restart, repetition and false start.
Un lexicalized filled pause is the dominant hesitation in the utterance of students
and it is followed by, lexicalized filled pause, silent pause, self-correction,restart,
repetition and false starts. There are 3 reasons which are found in utterances of
students produce hesitation. They are to take a breath, planning what we want to
say,and social context that consist of feeling nervous, less self-confidence, feeling
confuse, and afraid to speak up. While,to overcome it, students at second semester
of English Teaching Learning Progams have some ways to do such as prepare
well a material to explore their mind and practicing English by themselves or
using English with their friends and joining English clubv
The last, from this research, the researcher suggests them to know more
about the problem they face in their speaking of hesitation especially factors that
influence their hesitation, thus they can find the best solution for it. Besides, the
researcher also suggests to the readers to enlarge the knowledge about
Psycholinguistics, especially hesitation. So, it can be a reference for readers to
deepen their knowledge. In addition, because the researcher is not the perfect one,
thus the researcher suggests further researcher to observe about the same topic by
different approach.
