READING MOTIVATION OF ENGLISH TEACHING LEARNING PROGRAM STUDENTS' AT SECOND SEMESTER OF STAIN PAMEKASAN

Reading is one of important skill in studying the English subject.
Reading provided students to understand English more. It must be mastered
by students moreover for college student that take English faculty as their
departments. Motivation can influence students to be active in reading
activity. Motivation can become the reason why the students do something, It
can come from internal and external factors of students.
English teaching learning program students' at second semester of
STAIN Pamekasan have problem on their reading activity. The researcher
will study about students' reading motivation because still there are many
students especially students of English department at second semester dislike
reading activity. This statement based on the problem that some of students
do not read the material before they come to the class. The reason probably is
because they have poor motivation to read book. This condition gives impact
to their learning process in class. Students who have poor motivation on
reading automatically they dislike reading although it is important for them.
The class can be teacher-center and motonotonous because they do not read
before the class. Therefore the researcher wants to investigate how actually
the reading motivation of English teaching learning program students' at
second semester of STAIN Pamekasan based on the indicators and to find the
factors that can motivates them on reading.
This research used qualitative approach and the kind of research in
descriptive research. The place of this research is in STAIN Pamekasan. The
source of data in this research is from English department students at second
semester. To get the data the researcher used observation, interview and
documentation. Validity of the data the researcher used triangulation
technique.
The result of this study is most of English teaching learning program
students' at second semester of STAIN Pamekasan have good extrinsic
motivation but most of students have low intrinsic motivation within them on
reading. Furthermore, the factors that can motivate students on reading are the
task and the interesting topic of the text while the motivation orally is not
effective to up their motivation on reading.
