English as a second language is very important for the students in
any fields such as the students at kindergarten. Teaching English at
Kindergarten is very different with teaching English in high level.
Children are not adults, they have been interested to learn all the things in
front of them.
In the teaching-learning phenomenon that occurs in children,
especially for English learning, many teachers who feel heavy and
confused to teach them because they noisy, do not care, and tend to play
around. In fact, the teacher usually teaches children unpatiencely. The
teacher would be a teacher who hated by them only. The teacher shouts
over them to get their attention can make them used to talking over. So, the
teacher should find out and apply the right teaching technique and
strategies to create students enthusiastic and make students participation in
teaching learning process.
From the phenomenon above, the researcher interest to know the
teachers way to build the students engagement in English teaching
learning process. There are two problem statements in this study. The first
one is how do the teacher to build students engagement in English
teaching learning process at RA Nurul Hikmah Pamekasan and the second
is what are the factors that support the teachers to build students
engagement in English teaching learning process at RA Nurul Hikmah
Pamekasan.
This study is qualitative research. While this type of research is
descriptive research. The subject of this study is B1 class students who are
joint in English extracurricular of RA Nurul Hikmah Pamekasan which
consists of 31 students. Research instrument which are used are
observation, interview and documentation.
The result showed that there are some ways to build students
engagement in English teaching learning process are enter in kids’ world
firstly, make a good relationship, playing a game, build students
confidence, giving motivation, classroom management, and students’ help.
Beside that, the factors that support the teachers to build students
engagement are teachers students role, variety methods used in teaching
learning process, the use of media, and the last is suitable material. So that,
the strategy used by the teacher in English teaching learning process is
very influences to build their engagement.
It can be drown a conclusion that the teacher should be aware that
the activeness required the students direct involvement in teaching
learning activities. The researcher suggest that the teachers should choose
the right strategies especially the strategies for students at kindergarten.
They have to motivate and give opportunity to the student to be active and
feel confidence to show their ideas. The student do not be shy to answer
the teacher question to make the learning activities effectively
