Grammar is the means by which we structure the language that we speak
and write. Grammar is one of basic rule of language. To accelerate mastering
English grammar, the students could learning English grammar from books,
audio, and video.Grammar and writing skill seems to have close relation in
learning English language. Grammar is one of the features of writing that become
something important in English writing. As Melisa Donovan said that grammar,
spelling, and punctuation are the most basic components of good writing.
Grammatically correct texts are easier to read, easier to get published, and easier
to sell to readers; in many case a firm understanding of greammar also make
writing process easier. So, to make a good writing the students should master
grammar well. Because grammar is one of the most basic components of good
writing. And also by understanding of grammar could help the students to
improve their writing easier.
The main problems of this research are How the correlation between the
students’ mastering grammar and their achievement in English writing skill at
tenth grade of MA al- Mujtama’ Plakpak Pegantenan Pamekasan and How
significant is the correlation between the student’s mastering grammar and their
achievement in English writing skill at tenth grade of MA al-Mujtama’ Plakpak
Pegantenan Pamekasan.
In this research, the researcher uses quantitative research approach namely
correlational research design. The population of this research is all of the students
of tenth grade which is only one class so that it is called by sample population.
The instruments used in collecting the data are test and documentation. This test is
used to measure the mastering grammar of students and students’ achievement in
English writing skill. Then, the data was analyzed by using the correlation
analysis of Pearson Product Moment.
The result of this research shows that the “r” value of this research is
0,629. It is between 0,400-0,700, with sufficient correlatmenion level. It means
that there is correlation between mastering grammar and students’ achievememnt
in English writing skill at tenth grade of MA Al-mujtama’ Plakpak Pegantenan
Pamekasan. So, the alternative hypothesis (Ha) in this research which stated that
there is a significant correlation between mastering grammar and students’
achievement in English writing skill at tenth grade of MA Al-mujtama’ Plakpak
Pegantenan Pamekasan is accepted. Therefore, students are suggested to learning
grammar more and develop their writing skill because grammar and writing skill
are a section in learning English.
