THE USE OF SNOWBALL THROWING MODEL IN TEACHING READING AT THE TENTH GRADE OF SMAN 1 GALIS

Reading is an important activity to get some knowledge and also some
information about current the topic. There are many models to teach reading, one
of them is snowball throwing. Snowball throwing is one of learning model which
make students more active in learning activity where the teacher make the some
statement or question that rolled as like ball and then throw it. One problem that
necessary to know how the process of snowball throwing in teaching reading as
model of learning and what the advantages and disadvantages of snowball
throwing model in teaching reading.
There are two questioning problems. The first, How does the teacher use
of snowball throwing model in teaching reading at tenth grade of SMAN 1
GALIS ,and the second, what are the advantages and disadvantages of snowball
throwing model in teaching reading at tenth grade of SMAN 1 GALIS.
The researcher used qualitative descriptive as a method of research.
Qualitative research is an inquiry approach useful for exploring and understanding
a central phenomenon. Qualitative research need descriptive data which are
collected data in the form of words or picture rather than number. The researcher
collected of the data by using observation, interview, and documentation
The result, the researcher found that the use of snowball throwing model in
teaching reading by some process. The first, the teacher makes five groups to
students. The second, the teacher asked the each groups to make a circle. The
third, the teacher gave one a ball to each groups inside there is a paper which
contain a different texts and questions to read and answer together. The fourth, the
teacher asked the each groups to throw a ball to another groups, until each groups
got one a ball. The fiveth the teacher asked the each groups to throw again, again
and again until all students of each groups read the text together and answer three
a questions in five different text .and the six the teacher asked each groups to
answer the questions in different text. The advantages of snowball throwing
model in teaching reading are can motivated the students to join the lesson, the
students enthusiast to ask about the difficult vocabularies and the students have a
time to show their different ideas. And disadvantages of snowball throwing model
in teaching reading are the teacher just focus on the materials, and the class be
busy.
The researcher hopes to give suggestion to the teacher to teach reading
English text by using the snowball throwing model on the teaching and learning
process but the teacher should prepare well the material to be used on the teaching
and learning process .and the second to the students after the students study the
lesson by using snowball throwing model , the students should always practice the
use of snowball throwing model by themselves on the real fact. Practice make
perfect. And the last to the next researcher the researcher hopes this thesis can be
reference to the next research
