THE ENGLISH TEACHERS’ TREATMENT IN DEVELOPING ENGLISH STUDENTS’ SPEAKING SKILL AT INSTITUT PRIMA BHAKTI PAMEKASAN

Speaking is the skill to speak by producing the words orally. It has an
important role in our daily life to make good relationship with the society around
us. But the students are often reluctant to speak because they are shy and are not
predisposed to expressing themselves in front of other people. Therefore, the
teachers use their treatments to help the students in developing their speaking skill
especially.
The objectives of this research are to investigate the kinds of treatment
used by the instructors in developing the students’ speaking skill at Institut Prima
Bhakti; To describe the application of the treatment used by the instructors in
developing the students’ speaking skill at Institut Prima Bhakti; and To explain
the treatment which mostly help in developing the students’ speaking skill at
Institut Prima Bhakti Pamekasan.
This study is designed by qualitative research with the descriptive research
as the kinds of research. Because of the using of descriptive research, the data of
this research is analyzed by the descriptive analysis to answer the research
focuses. To collect the data, the researcher used observation, interview and the
documentation.
The result of this study shows that kinds of treatment that is used by the
instructor of Institut Prima Bhakti Pamekasan are social strategy, memory
strategy, grammar translation method, conversational strategy. Those different
strategies are applied in the variant of places, times, and conditions. For the social
strategy, the instructor applies outside the class. While, the memory strategy is
applied when the students came to the class. Grammar translation method is
applied after the students memorize their new vocabularies. During the teaching
learning process, the instructor also uses the conversational strategy to develop the
students’ speaking skill. Then, from the kinds of treatment the most helpful
treatment is the conversational strategy. It caused by the good result that had felt
by the students. They feel so comfortable when the instructor uses the
conversational strategy. Because they can know the real conversation looks like.
How to construct the questions by using the important phrase of communication
and how to anwers the speakers’ questions with the right sentences.
Based on the result of the study above, it is suggested for the English
teacher (instructor) to select the kinds of treatment which probably help the
students to develop their skill. Then, it also suggested for the further researcher
who want to conduct the research about the teachers’ treatment with the different
aspect. Hopefully, the existence of this study will give new knowledge for all,
especially in the educational area.
