THE ANALYSIS ON MAXIM OF POLITENESS PRINCIPLES BY LEECH’S IN THE MOVIE ENTITTLED “In Time
The Analysis on Maxim of Politeness Principles by

In creating good relation with other people the human being need a good
communication, to appear it, so it is needed a principles which called as politeness
principles. This is included into one of the part of Pragmatic field. In this thesis
the researcher uses the movie entitled “In Time” as his subject, he interests with
the movie because the background of the writer script or movie maker namely
Andrew M. Niccol. He wrote many scripts of the movie and also made movie
which get many appreciation from many institutes of movie. For this movie the
writer surely will give the best idea to make this movie more interesting to watch.
Unconsciously the researcher interests to research is this literary work use
politeness principles as like tact, generosity, approbation, modesty, agreement,
and sympathy maxim in arranging the script become a good story.
The focus of this research is what are the politeness principles used in the
movie entitled “In Time” and also explains how are the politeness principles used
in the movie entitled “In Time”. Whereas the objectives of this research are to
identify the politeness principles used in the movie entitled “In Time” and to
analyze how the politeness principles used in the dialogue of the movie.
This research uses qualitative approach where the method is using content
analysis. This approach will help the researcher to describe the situation into a
paragraph. The used data is taken from the script of the movie. For this research,
the researcher himself becomes the instrument for doing the observation and
transcription, he searches and collects the data which gotten from the script and
analyzes using politeness principles.
The result of analysis such as kinds of politeness principles is as like tact,
generosity, approbation, modesty, agreement, and sympathy. The maxims work
appropriately with the rule which stated in politeness principles.
The conclusion is there are many scripts or dialogues use maxim of
politeness principles and few of them do not use because it may be only the
interjection expression or impoliteness speech
