The background of study in this research was based on the students’
difficulties in comprehending writing descriptive text. Some of reasons were the
teaching learning process was not interesting, and were the teacher still used a
traditional method. So, it makes students’ difficulties to achieve the target of
teaching learning process. So, in order to solve this problems teacher should have
creative activity, and the using riddle time game can be an alternative way as a
new technique, that will help the students’ enjoy and easy to understand and
develop their ideas to be good writing.
This study is aimed at responding the following question: How can a
riddle time game improve the students’ writing skill in descriptive text at the
eighth grade of SMP Ma’arif 4 Pamekasan? Than the objective of the study is to
describe how a riddle time game improve the students’ writing skill in descriptive
text at the eighth grade of SMP Ma’arif 4 Pamekasan.
The study was designed as collaborative classroom action research. It was
done collaboratively with one of the English teachers. The subject of study was 20
students’ of the eight grades at SMP Ma’arif 4 pamekasan. The study consists of
two cycles. Each cycle consisted of two meetings took which took one mount for
all of cycles. In the planning stage designed lesson plans, research instrument, the
criteria of success. In implementing the action, the researcher collects the data
through observation checklist, writing test, and documentation. In reflecting the
action, the researcher acchieved the criteria of success or not.
During the implementation of the action , the result of the test showed that
the average of students’ score in writing test on cycle I test was 60, and the
average the students’ score writing test on cycle II was 85. The achievement of
test on cycle II showed that the treatment was successful because the criteria of
success of the implementation of riddle time game can be said successful if 85%
of students’ reached standard minimum score that was 75. In line with this result,
the researcher concluded that the research improved students’ skill on writing
descriptive text.vii
From the result of this study, it can be stated that the using of riddle time
game were effective and very useful. It can be seen from the significant
improvement of students test result during cycle I and cycle II. However, the
researcher recommends the English teacher to use riddle time game as an
alternative way in improving students writing skill on the descriptive texts
especially when the students get difficulties in generating and organizing their
ideas. There were some suggestions that are proposed by the writer: for the
teacher, make the teaching learning process interesting; for the students are more
active during the teaching learning process; and for the further researcher, the
result of this study as reference to other researchers with different skill or subject;
for the reader, this thesis is far from being perfect. So the writer will accept good
suggestions and constructive criticism to make this thesis perfect and the writer
also hope that the thesis will be useful and contribute some valuable thing to the
writers himself and the all readers in general.
