Every people have different intelligences, which is also pushed them to
have different tendencies in their learning style. In speaking class, the students
were required to speak. Even though, some of them tend to be quiet and tend to
listen to what the lecturer’s instruction than speaking. Those are the students’
multiple intelligences such as: linguistics, musical, intrapersonal, interpersonal,
kinesthetic, logical and naturalist which really existed and dominant within them.
Thus, the lecturer’s role is needed to cover all their intelligences in the speaking
class. Then, they are not too tired and lazy to attend the class.
Multiple Intelligences are a set of individuals’ abilities or talents which is
different from one another to understand the complex ideas, to learn from
experience and to adapt effectively from the environment in the same purpose.
Therefore, this study is questioning and automatically answering two problems; 1.
What are the multiple intelligences prevalent among students in the speaking class
at the second semester of TBI Department at STAIN Pamekasan academic years
2017-2018 2. How do multiple intelligences help the students’ speaking skill at
the second semester of TBI Department at STAIN Pamekasan academic years
2017-2018.
This study used a qualitative approach with descriptive analysis method.
By choosing the second semester of class A, consists of 32 students as a
participant. The researcher collected the data through observation, interviews and
questionnaires. This questionnaire is used to determine the student’s dominant
intelligences in the speaking class which is supported by interviews.
The result shows that the dominant intelligences among student in the
speaking class at the second semester of A class academic years 2017-2018 are
intrapersonal, linguistic, music, interpersonal, kinesthetic and logical-mathematic
intelligence. By their intelligences, they can improve their speaking skills
respectively. And to cover all of students’ intelligences in the speaking class, the
lecturer use icletic method which is combined two or more strategies based on
students’ conditions and situation.
From the data obtained, it is expected to the students to try a new thing to
explore their intelligence, and also can develop it. So, it will be very useful for
their future. For lecturers, especially speaking lecturer, she or he can create a new
strategy to determine the students’ intelligence in the class, to make the student
more enjoyable with the speaking subject.
