Speaking is needed when people want to express or discuss something with each other. They do it orally. In doing speaking, it is not only has a purpose to conduct a conversation but also to give information. So, people must speak by using correct pronunciation, especially English. If they do not do it, listener will be confused and misunderstand because there are many words which have almost same pronunciation but different meaning. For example: too and two, three and tree, six and sick, etc.
Based on the problem about pronunciation that has been faced by the students of SMP Negeri 1 Larangan Pamekasan, this research has a problem of study. It is whether there is an effect of using tongue twister song on students’ pronunciation at the eighth grade students of SMP Negeri 1 Larangan Pamekasan.
This research used quantitative research which was designed pre-experimental. The population was all of students at the eighth grade of SMP Negeri 1 Larangan Pamekasan and the sample was VIII. 1 class that consisted of 24 students. The research instruments which were used in this research were test and documentation. Test was used to measure the students’ pronunciation by using tongue twister song. Documentation was used to complete the research data such as students’ name list, the tests form of pre-test and post-test, the computation of score tests, lesson plan, photo, and recording. T-test formula which was used to analyzing the data namely pre-test and post-test one group design.
The result of the research showed that there was an effect of using tongue twister song on students’ pronunciation at the eighth grade students of SMP Negeri 1 Larangan Pamekasan. It was proven by the calculation of the data by using t-test formula. The result was t-observation value was higher than t-table (6.725 > 2.07) in significance level 5%.
Based on the result above, it is suggested for teachers in teaching English not only focus on teaching grammar, vocabulary, reading, and translation but also concern to the students’ speaking skill by using the correct pronunciation. Teachers could use interesting media so that students could be more interesting to study and pronounce English words. It is also suggested for students to improve their pronunciation by reading or listening English words. And the last suggestion is for further researchers to conduct the same research in different media so that the research about pronunciation could be developed by another more interesting media.
