THE TEACHER’S ROLE IN USING VISUAL MEDIA ON TEACHING LEARNING SPEAKING AT THE SEVENTH GRADE OF SMPN 1 LARANGAN PAMEKASAN

Speaking is one of four basic skills (listening, writing, speaking, reading) which have to be mastered in learning English. Speaking a language is difficult for foreign language learners because effective oral communication requires the ability to use the language in social interaction appropriately.. Students must have good speaking skill to get easier in learning English where learning to speak a second or foreign language requires more than knowing its grammatical and semantic rules, and to get it needed namely the role of teacher in the classroom where the teacher really takes important role in successfull of student’s achievement. To make easier in played his role, the teacher use visual media, where the primary role of media is as supplemental support of the “live” instructor in the classroom. So the teacher use visual media in increase the student’s speaking skill, where the teacher’s role and use of visual media will have their own function.
This research is conducted to find out the teacher’s role in using visual media on teaching learning speaking at the seventh grade of SMPN 1 Larangan and to describe the way the teacher play the role in using visual media on teaching learning speaking at the seventh grade of SMPN 1 Larangan.
In this research the researcher uses qualitative approach and the kinds of research is descriptive research, to describe about the teacher’s role in using visual on teaching learning speaking at the seventh grade of SMPN 1 Larangan. In collecting the data, the researcher conduct observation, interview, and documentation.
The result of the research based on the data was gotten from the meetings that held on 20th and 27th of January prove that there are many roles that played by teacher in using visual media on teaching learning speaking, these are teacher as manager the teacher can manage function of visual media in the teaching learning activity well, as motivator the teacher can motivate well the student not only by words but also by use visual media to make thestudents interest, as organizer the teacher can organize everything will be used and taught before going into the classroom, as controller the teacher can control all the activities in teaching learning process (pre, whilst, post teaching), as resource, as prompter, as facilitator the teacher facilitate the student with visual media (picture) in order to make the student easier in understand lesson, then the teacher also play his role as informer, as mediator, as assessor.
From the result of research above, it is suggested for the teacher toconsider the time management so that the teaching learning activity managed well especially when the teacher ask student to do exercises. It is also suggested to the student to support the teacher’s idea to create good atmosphere in the class
