THE USE OF ABUNAWAS HUMOR STORY AS MEDIA IN TEACHING SPEAKING AT ELEVENTH GRADE OF MISBAHUS SHUDUR ISLAMIC SENIOR HIGH SCHOOL KEDUNGDUNG SAMPANG

It is not easy to teach speaking to the senior high school students,
because speaking is one of the most difficult aspects for students to
master because there are some elements which should be considered by
the speaker when the speaker wants to speaks, Jeremy said that the

element of speaking are language feature and mental or social
processing such as connected speech and negotiation language. In this
case the teacher’s role is important to eliminate the students’ problem in
speaking and to make the students have interest in learning speaking in
the class. In this research the teacher uses a media to make the students
have interest in learning English especially in speaking ability.the media
that the teacher uses is a story and the story is included in humour story
namely Abunawas humour story to invite the students active during in
the classroom activities. Therefore, in this research, the researcher
conducts a research about The Implementation of Abunawas’ Humor
Story as Media in Teaching English on Students’ Speaking English at
Eleventh Grade of Misbahus Shudur Islamic Senior High School
Kedungdung Sampang
The English teacher uses the media in the classroom activities by
implementing one story of Abunawas humor story, from the statement
above, the researcher wants to know how the teacher implement the
humor story of Abunawas in teaching speaking English at Eleventh
Grade of Misbahus Shudur Islamic Senior High School Kedungdung
Sampang and the advantages of using the humor story of Abunawas in
teaching speaking English at Eleventh Grade of Misbahus Shudur Islamic
Senior High School at Kedungdung Sampang.
This research uses descriptive qualitative because the researcher
wants to analyze the data in descriptive analysis. The researcher gets the
data from the interview, observation and documentation. The number of
students at the eleventh grade of Misbahus Shudur Islamic Senior High
School Kedungdung Sampang is thirty students. The data analysis that
the researcher uses are data reduction, data display and conclusion
drawing/ verification. The researcher also check the validity of data, the
researcher used triangulation of source, triangualation of place and
triangulation of time to make the data the researcher gets in the field is
valid.
The result of this research shows when the teacher implements
Abunawas humor story as media in teaching speaking, the students are
interested in learning well because the Abunawas humor story is familiar
to the students as a story of Moslem legendary. The teacher divides the
students into six groups and in each group consists of five students. The
teacher provided some title of the story to the students each group to be
analyzed in group work and then the students are pointed by the teacher
to retell the story that they got before to be a storyteller. All the students
that wants to come forward depends on the teacher not depend on the
leader of the group, in order that the students that have low level in
speaking ability is also ready to come forward. While the advantages of
using Abunawas humor story as media in teaching speaking is so
significant because the students have an idea to be spoken in front of the
class about Abunawas humor story that the teacher gives. So the
implementation of the media abunawas story has a good response. It
appears when the students stated that this media can help them to be

brave in joining the lesson. So, they can show the students’ speaking
ability in the class.
Based on the statement above, the researcher concludes that the can
help the students more active. The researcher suggests that the English
teacher should be more creative in teaching speaking, because the
teacher’s role influences the students’ activeness in the class and also
become motivator to be more spirit and always interested in learning
harder
