THE TEACHERS’ NONVERBAL COMMUNICATION IN ENGLISH TEACHING AND LEARNING PROCESS AT ELEVENTH GRADE OF MA. NURUS SHOLAH BATU LABANG- PALENGAAN- PAMEKASAN

Teaching learning process is a process to transferring knowledge from
teacher to the students, where is in teaching learning process teacher and students
make communication, sometimes the quality of teaching and learning process depend
on effective communication or not which connect as long as teaching and learning
process are progress. Effective communication will get two feedback
communications. We know that not all students understand of their teachers’ English
speech especially when teacher gives instruction and explanation about the lesson,
So that teachers’ verbal communication is not enough used but “teachers’ nonverbal
communication” also important used in English teaching learning process to make
communication more clear and teaching learning process more a live. In this case the
teacher acts her/his nonverbal communication in front of the class when make
communication with students, include giving explanation, instruction or motivation
and students respond teachers’ instruction and explanation by do the instruction and
speak up well.
There are three focuses of research in this study: What the non verbal
communication is used by teacher, how the teacher uses non verbal communication,
how the students’ responses on the teachers’ non verbal communication in English
teaching and learning process at Eleventh grade of MA. Nurus Sholah Batulabang
Palengaan Pamekasan. This study is to gives description about non verbal
communicationused by the teacher, to describe or explain how teacher uses non
verbal communication, and to know the students’ responses on teachers’ non verbal
communication in English teaching and learning processat eleventh grade of MA.
Nurus Sholah Batu Labang Palengaan Pamekasan.In this study, the approach uses
qualitative approach, and use the descriptive design. Therefore, instruments, the
researcher can divide the procedure of data collection with the step below:
observation, interview, and documentation.
The result of this research indicated that teachers` non verbal
communication that used in English teaching learning process are gesture: teacher
applied adaptor by holding a pen or board marker when taught and holding her hand
in the hip when waiting students’ writing and speaking finished , teacher applied
illustrator by using hand movement to follow her speaking, applying emblem to
instead her verbal message, she also uses head movement by nodding, up her
head,using posture like standing up, sitting down, crouch, using facial expression by
smiling, laughing, confusing, spirit, and angry face, using eyes contact by pierce toiv
student, pierce on the top, facing, and also applying vocalic includes, the quality of
voice, verbal filler when she gave explanation, instruction, opening and closing
material in English teaching learning process. Students’ responses on teachers’
nonverbal communication are:1)theyunderstand her teachers’ explanation and
instruction by using non verbal communication.2)Part of students feel confused on
teachers’ nonverbal communication and teacher should repeat her non verbal until
the students understand.3)Students spirit to respond teachers’ instruction by using
nonverbal communication. 4) The students feel happy and interest on teachers’
nonverbal communication in English Teaching Learning.
Based on the result of research above, addressed to other researcher who
want to conduct a research about teachers’ nonverbal communication from different
aspect. Hopefully this study gives new knowledge for all, especially in education
context
