THE CORRELATION BETWEEN STUDENTS’ READING INTERESAND STUDENTS’ READING COMPREHENSION AT MTSN PARTEKER PAMEKASAN

Reading interest is the interest of students to get the information from the
text.Reading comprehension is ability to comprehend or to understand the text
more deeply, what the text tells about.
There are two problems in this research. The first one is whether the
correlation between students’ reading interest and students’ reading
comprehension at MTsN Parteker Pamekasan, and the second one is how the
significance correlation betweenstudents’ reading interest and students’ reading
comprehension at MTsN Parteker Pamekasan.
The objectives of this research are to know the correlation between
students’ reading interest and students’ reading comprehension at MTsN
Parteker Pamekasan and to measure the significant correlation between
students’ reading interest and students’ reading comprehension at
MTsNParteker Pamekasan. There are two variables in this research; those are
students’ reading interest as independent variable and students’ reading
comprehension as dependent variable.
The kind approach of this research is quantitative research, while the
research design of this research is correlational research design.
In this research, the population is all of the students Eight Grade at
MTsN Parteker Pamekasan. But the researcher choose VIII A as population of
this research. The total of students VIII A is 25.
Research instruments which used in this research are questionnaire and
documentation. The questionnaire and documentationare used to collect data
related to x variable (students’ reading interest) and y variable (students’
reading comprehension).
The result showed that there is correlation betweenstudents’ reading
interest ad students’ reading comprehension at MTsN Parteker Pamekasan. It
was proved by “r” value of this research 0.834 is higher than the table of
coefficient value of correlation “r” product moment 0.413.
Besides that, the correlation between students’ reading interest and
students’ reading comprehension at MTsN Parteker Pamekasan is strong
correlation. It is proved by “r” value of this research 0.834is in between 0.70
till with 0.90. The interpretation of between 0.70 till with 0.90 is high or strong
correlation.
Based on the result above, the researcher concludes that there is
correlation between students’ reading interest and students’ reading
comprehension at MTsN Parteker Pamekasan.
