THE IMPLEMENTATION OF PASS THE BALLOON GAME ON TEACHING SPEAKING AT THE SEVENTH GRADE STUDENTS OF SMPN 2 PADEMAWU PAMEKASAN

Speaking is an important thing for the students, because it can help them to
communicate between one person to another. Through speaking, they can express
their mind freely. They can practice their speaking by making a dialogue or
conversation in many places such as in the school. Therefore, the teacher
implements game to interested and motivate students in speaking learning. Pass
the balloon game is implemented on teaching speaking at the seventh grade
students of SMPN 2 Pademawu Pamekasan.
There are two research problems in this study. The first is how the teacher
implement pass the balloon game on teaching speaking at the seventh grade
students of SMPN 2 Pademawu Pamekasan. And the second is what the strength
and the weaknesses of pass the balloon game.
In this research, the researcher uses qualitative as the approach of the
research and kind of the research is descriptive. The data sources are the English
teacher of seventh F class and the students of this class. In collecting the data, the
researcher uses some procedures those are observation, interview, and
documentation. And to analyzed the data, the researcher using three steps namely
data reduction, data display, and conclusion drawing. Validity of the data the
researcher used triangulation technique.
The result of research shows pass the balloon game is implemented for
teaching speaking in the class for two meetings. Those two meetings are
successful because the teacher implemented the game well by joining some
procedures based on the lesson plan that the English teacher had and the
procedures of the game. Besides this game has some strenght namely, it helps the
students get many vocabulary after the playing of the game, it motivates students
to express what they want to say in their mind, it interested students to speak
English easily, it help students to be more confidence and not afraid to speak
English in the class, and helps the students to have a good pronounciation. In
other hand, this game provides weaknesses such as it has limited time, need many
vocabulary, in process making dialogue is slow because the students more carefull
in giving balloon to their member, and the students low level get difficulties to
responses their friend.
Based on the result above, it is suggested for the English teacher to the
English teacher to be selective in implementing the game and to have a good
preparation in order it can run well. It is also sugessed for the students to practice
the language through speaking in order to have a good speaking and they should
motivate themselves in play so that they can reach the goal.
