The Correlation between Using Internet and Student’s Motivation in English Learning at Tenth Grade of MAN Pamekasan

Using internet in teaching learning process is important, because internet
has many information and material about English. Besides that, internet can make
student to motivate in English learning.
There are two problem of study in this study. The first one is there any
correlation between using internet and student’s motivation in English learning at
tenth grade of MAN Pamekasan. The second one is how significant is the
correlation between using internet and student’s motivation in English learning at
tenth grade of MAN Pamekasan.
This study is to find out there is correlation between using internet and
student’s motivation in English learning at tenth grade of MAN Pamekasan and to
measure the significant correlation between using internet and student’s
motivation in English learning at tenth grade of MAN Pamekasan. There are two
variables in this study; they are using internet, as independent variables, and
student’s motivation, as dependent variable.
In this study, the population for this study is all of students at tenth grade
of MAN Pamekasan. The sample is chose A class, because the sampling
technique using purposive sampling. Research instruments which are used are
questionnaire. The obtained data from questionnaire was analyzed by using
product moment.
The results of this study are there is no correlation between using internet
and student’s motivation. The second is the significant correlation between using
internet and student’s motivation in English learning at tenth grade of MAN
Pamekasan is low. It proved from the result of statistical analysis that shows that
“r” value is 1,977913. It is smaller than r product moment table in significant level
5% and also 1% with N=25 is 0,396 and 0,505. This study use 5%. After that, the
researcher compared it with interpretation table r product moment. It is there
between 0,00-0,20 with low interpretation. So, the alternative hypothesis is
rejected because there is in low interpretation or nothing.
Based on the result above, it is suggested for English teacher to give an
explanation about how to good using internet, because internet does not always
give benefit. For students, use internet in positive activities, and use it base on
need well. Because more use internet can make lazy and not bring good
motivation to learn. The last for other researcher, it recommended to develop this
media in teaching and learning English
