THE IMPLEMENTATION OF DRAMA TECHNIQUE ON STUDENTS’ SPEAKING SKILL AT FIRST GRADE OF SMAN 5 PAMEKASAN

Speaking is an interactive process of constructing meaning that involves
producing and receiving and processing information. When we are studying about
language especially English, we must produce it in the way of speaking because
speaking is a skill that need to be developed in order to be a good speaker and
practice is the best way. Teacher who teaches the students about speaking should
motivate the students to speak as much as possible. Therefore, the teacher uses
technique to motivate students speaking skill in the class. “Drama Technique” as a
technique has been implemented in teaching speaking at first grade students of
SMAN 5 Pamekasan.
There are two research focuses in this study. The first is how does the
teacher implements “Drama Technique”on students’ speaking skill at first grade
of SMAN 5 Pamekasan. The last is what are the advantages and disadvantages of
the implementation“Drama Technique” on students’ speaking skill at first grade
of SMAN 5 Pamekasan.
In this research, the researcher uses qualitative as the approach of the
research and kind of the research is descriptive. The data sources are the English
teacher of first grade and the students of this class. In collecting the data, the
researcher uses some procedures those are observation, interview, and
documentation. The researcher then analyzes the data by reduction, display, and
verification. Additionally, for getting the validity of the data, the researcher uses
source triangulation especially technique triangulation.
The result of research showed that implement “Drama Technique” is
implemented by the English teacher in speaking class by using three steps. Those
are pre teaching, whilst teaching, and post teaching. The implementation of this
technique was successful based on the result of observation guideline during
teaching and learning process. Besides this technique also helps the students and
give advantages and disadvantages in learning speaking since it helps the students
to speak much, getting much knowledge and new experience for their speaking
skill and to express their idea freely. In brief, this technique can be implemented
by the English teacher in teaching English, especially speaking and also make a
student be confident to be an actor and can practice in front of class with good
performance.
Based on the result above, it is suggested for the English teacher to be
selective in implementing technique for language learners, in this case for
speaking class. Technique It should be appropriate with the students’ level in
order to be successful in the class and make a student be active to speak much and
give new knowledge about dramatic technique and elements of Drama and also
the students get the material easily and to English Teacher have a good

preparation before teaching speaking in the class since it determines the successful
of teaching and learning process.
