Lexical ambiguity is a linguistic condition which can arise in a variety of ways
especially in a word that depends on polysemy or homonymy. Novel is a story in
prose, about imaginary or historical people. In this research, researcher wants to
analysis of Lexical Ambiguity on the Novel The Land of Five Towers by Ahmad
Fuadi
There are two research problems, are: Firstly, what kind of lexical ambiguity
found in the novel The Land of Five Towers?. Secondly, how lexical ambiguity
depicted on the novel The Land of Five Towers based on Stephen Ullman
perspective?
Based on the research problem, the main objectives of this research that would
be achieved are: Firstly,to find what kind of lexical ambiguity on the novel The Land
of Five Towers. Secondly, to know how lexical ambiguity depicted on the novel The
Land of Five Towers based on Stephen Ullman perspective
Researcher used a qualitative approach in this study. The research method used
is content analysis. There are two kind of data source. First is primary data source that
is the novel of Ahmad Fuadi: The Land of Five Towers. Second is secondary data
source that is books,literature,official website and other relevant material.Researcher
as the key to collect the data. Then, the novel is the instrument for researcher to
search the lexical ambiguity.
The data of this research is collected by doing the following steps: selecting the
novel,reading the novel repetitively and carefully, identifying the data related to the
study, classifying the data, selecting the relevant data, and reporting selected data.
Kinds of lexical ambiguity divided into two types: homonymy and polysemy.
The result of this research is the researcher found that polysemy is kind of lexical
ambiguity which the most dominant used than homonymy on The Land of Five
Towers novel written by Ahmad Fuadi.The researcher also give proposes some
suggestion to the reader, teachers, and also to the future researchers about the
important thing to understand and study of literature.
