THE IMPLEMENTATION OF “LINE UP” TECHNIQUE ON STUDENTS’ SPEAKING SKILL AT THE EIGHTH GRADE OF SMPI NURUL ISLAM PANGONGSEAN TORJUN SAMPANG

Nowadays, studying English is very important for people. In
learning English, there are four language skills. They are listening,
reading, speaking, and writing. One of language skills that is considered
important is speaking. In teaching speaking, the teacher is required to use a
good technqiue in order to make the students get interested in. Actually,
the teacher in SMPI Nurul Islam Pangongsean Torjun Sampang uses Line
Up technique to teach speaking at eighth grade, this technique used to get
the students’ interest toward speaking skill.
There are three research focuses in this study. The first, how the
teacher implement Line Up technique on students’ speaking skill at the
eighth grade of SMPI Nurul Islam. The second, what the obstacles faced
by the students in implementing Line Up technique on students’ speaking
skill at the eighth grade of SMPI Nurul Islam. The third, how the teacher
overcome the obstacles faced by the students in implementing Line Up
technique on students’ speaking skill at the eighth grade of SMP Nurul
Islam Pangongsean Torjun Sampang.
In this research, the researcher uses qualitative approach. While
kind of research, the researcher uses descriptive research. Because it is
intended to describe how the teacher implements Line Up technique on
students’ speaking skill in teaching learning process.
The result of this research found that there were three steps in the
implementation of Line Up technique on students’ speaking skill at the
eighth grade of SMPI Nurul Islam. Some obstacles faced by the students
are the students feel shy to speak up, they have less vocabulary mastery,
they cannot give clear response because they do not know to arrange their
speaking English. In this case the teacher overcome the obstacles faced by
the students as the teacher motivaes the students, asks the students to
prepare dictionary, and guides the students in speaking activity, namely by
rearranging the students’ speaking into a good one

In this case the researcher suggests that the teacher should make
the classroom teaching and learning process more interesting so that the
students enjoy the activities and they can express their idea through line up
technqiue
