THE STUDY ON STUDENTS WHO LIKE ENGLISH SONG IN MASTERING LISTENING SKILL OF THE SECOND SEMESTER TBI STAIN PAMEKASAN 2015-2016

Listening to the music is the enjoyable activity that does not
consider the how young or how old people who do it. As JJ Wilson
stated in his book that music is memorable and enjoyable, it brings
other dimension, art and emotion to the listeners. Moreover, if the
theme of the English song that about love song. From that usual,
enjoyable and memorable activity, listening to the English song actually
may help listener have better in some English skill like listening.
In this research, there are three problems or research focuses,
the first one is how the process of students who like English song in
mastering listening skill of the second semester students TBI STAIN
Pamekasan. The second is what are the student’s obstacles in mastering
listening skill, then the last one is what are the advantages of English
song in mastering listening skill.
This study is to find out the answer of those questions who have
explained above.And the researcher describe all the data that gotten
from the research by using the descriptive method. This research was
conducted by using qualitative approach. In the process of collecting the
data, researcher used questionnaire only to know the students who like
English song, the researcher use observation, documentation and
interview to obtain the data. And this research conducted in Islamic
College(STAIN) Pamekasan.
Based on the data obtained, the students who like English song did
some process when they listen to the English song, such as repeat the
song they listen again and again, understand the meaning of the lyrics,
find the meaning of unfamiliar word from the song they listen in the
dictionary to add the new English vocabulary and understand when
they should listen the native speaker said in the tape of listening and
others. Then about the advantages that students got are the new word
that students didn’t know before, listening to the English song is one of
crucial activity that practice their hearing sense, help their listening skill.
Not only advantages, but the obstacles in mastering listening also felt by
the students. It the English sound of the native speaker from the tape
was unclear, or even it actually come from the students itself, who has
less English vocabulary to understand the native mean from the tape or

their sense hearing that almost seldom to practice in mastering listening
skill.
Based on the result above, it is suggested to the students to
consider that usual activity like listening to the music is meaningful if
they listen it not only to enjoy but also to make their skill in English
better . So for the listening teacher, perhaps English song did not
ignored to use in the teaching learning process of listening. Because the
enjoyable of English song may stimulate students more interest in
learning listening
