A Study on Students’ Unself –Confidence in Speaking Class at the First Semester of English Teaching Learning Program of STAIN Pamekasan

Speaking is one of skills in teaching English. In speaking learning, students need the higher self -confidence to talk in class. Students must be effort to produce the language and to explore their idea. Unself- confidence is lack of self – belief for doing or showing something with our ability. There are several students in speaking class at the first semester of English teaching learning program of STAIN Pamekasan have problem in speaking class. One of their problems is they are unself-confidence, it happened because they feel shy and fear when they want to speak in front of the class, so they are just silent and not active in their class.
There are two problems of study in this research; the first, what factors those influences of students’ unself- confidence in speaking class at the first semester of English teaching learning program of STAIN Pamekasan; and second howthose factors contribute to student’s unself confidence in speaking class at the first semester of English teaching learning program of Stain Pamekasan.
The researcher used descriptive qualitative. The subjects of this study were the English teacher and students in speaking class at first semester of STAIN Pamekasan. Meanwhile, the data mostly is collected from the observation, interview and documentation. To analyze the data, the researcher used data reduction, data display and verification. Moreover, to check the validity of data, the researcher used triangulation and member checking.
In this research, researcher found that there are so many students unself – confidence in speaking class. It’s proven by observation guideline that consist of characteristics of unself – confidence, and there are so many students that include to it characteristics. There are some factors that make students unself-confidence like nothing preparation before, negative beliefs, nervous, low vocabulary, less practice afraid.Those factors contribute to their unself-confidence.
The researcher concluded that factors of unself-confidence give contributeto speaking of students and it should be attention by English teacher. The teachershould be a good facilitator and motivator to make students’ unself-confidencebecome self-confidence.
