Editing is an interactive process of reading and commenting on a classmate’s writing. It is a phase of writing which becomes one of the key whether the writing is good or not. Editing process seems trivial so it is often overlooked. Especially among students, because the teacher only gave scores without telling to do the editing on writing. This makes students writing are not qualified. So, in teaching writing is needed a technique to improve writing skills for students. Peer editing technique is a technique that is particularly suitable in improving writing skills. This technique is used as a learning technique in writing paragraphs in eleventh grade of MA. Al Ma’arif Plus Bluto Sumenep.
There are three principles to be studied in this research, the first, how the teacher teaches writing using peer editing; second, the problems faced by the teacher in teaching writing using peer editing; third, the problems faced by students in writing a paragraph using peer editing.
This study used a qualitative approach with kind of descriptive. Sources of data were obtained through observations, interviews, and documentations. Informant of this research is an English teacher and some students in eleventh grade. While checking the validity of the data is done by the researcher participating in the observation and triangulation based on the data source.
While observing the teaching process and the writing process. The resercher knew that in teaching paragraph, the teacher asked the students to write a paragraph suitable with the topic that teacher write. Then the teacher asked the students to do editing of their paper’ friend in group. In teaching writing paragraph using peer editing need long time, so the teacher must manage the time. The teacher found some mistakes in writing students, like: spelling, grammatical, capitalization and punctuation.
