The Effects of Cartoon Movie on Listening Comprehension at Eighth Grade of SMP Negeri 5 Pamekasan

In listening comprehension the students need the real situation because listen to native speaker and listen the teacher is very different. In teaching listening comprehension, the teachers need the media to develop the listening skill of the students well. In this research, the researcher will use “cartoon movie” as media in teaching listening.
There are two objective of study in this research. The first was to find out whether the eighth grade students who taught listening using cartoon movie have better listening comprehension than those do not taught listening using cartoon movie at SMP Negeri 5 Pamekasan. The second was to find out how statistically significance the effect of cartoon movie to eighth grade students on listening comprehension at SMP Negeri 5 Pamekasan.
The research design of this research is using quantitative approach, especially Pre-experimental research design, especially one-group pre-test post-test. The population that will be conducted is the students’ of eighth grade at SMP Negeri 5 Pamekasan, which contains of seven classes. The researcher takes of C class which contains 32 students by using cluster sampling. The researcher uses documentation and test as the instrument of research to collect the data. The tests here are pre-test and post-test. This research was done from 03th December 2014 until 12nd December 2014, the technique of data analysis used by researcher is “t” test analysis.
The result of this research showed that the eighth grade students who taught listening using cartoon movie have better listening comprehension than those do not taught listening using cartoon movie which the statistically significance is 95%. It proves that the obtained t is higher than the value of t table ( to : 13,63 > tt : 2,038 ).
Based on the result of this research above can be concluded that by using cartoon movie in teaching listening comprehension give effect on students’ listening comprehension. From the explanation above researcher suggest for English teacher should use cartoon movie on teaching to make the students more interest to listen the material.
