Key Words: Four Corners Stategy, Students’ Speaking Skill on Debate
English is the main foreign language. It is taught to the students of Pre elementary school up to the university. There are four skills tobe mastered for students who study English. Those are, speaking, reading, writing and listening. But speaking is a major skill in English subject. So, as a teacher should use a good strategy especially in teaching students speaking skill. Four corners strategyuses in teaching students speaking skill at the eleventh gradeof senior High School IslamNurul Jadid Panglegur Tlanakan pamekasan.
There are three problems in this study. The first, How does the teacher implement four corners strategy in debate at eleventh grade of SMA Nurul Jadid Panglegur, Tlanakan, Pamekasan.The second, What are the difficulties faced by the students and what are the problem faced by the teacher in the implementation of four corners strategy in debate at eleventh grade of SMA Nurul Jadid Panglegur, Tlanakan, Pamekasan. And The third,How does the teacher solve the difficulties in the implementation of four corners strategy in debate at eleventh grade of SMA Nurul Jadid Panglegur, Tlanakan, Pamekasan.
In this research used a qualitative approach. It is a descriptive research because it describes the use of Four Corners Strategy on students speaking skill at the Eleventh Grade of Senior High School IslamNurul Jadid Panglegur TlanakanPamekasanTo collect the data the researcher use an interview, observation directly and documentation.
The result of this research found that the use of Four Corners Strategy on students’ speaking skill at the eleventh grade of SMA Islam Nurul Jadid Panglegur Tlanakan Pamekasan was success. It is proved with students’ participation during the teacher uses this strategy to teach speaking skill.Some difficulties faced by the students in the teaching learning process during the implementation of four corners strategy. Those are, phycologically, some students feel shy and afraid of expressing their ideas and linguistically, some students had less vocabularry; can not speak fluently. Some solutions that the teacher gave directly those are, the teacher motivated the students when the students felt shy and afraid to speak English, the students got the students to prepare dictionary, and the teacher guided the students who gave unclear response and the students who cannot arrange their speaking well.
Based on the result above, the researcher can conclude that this strategy is appropriatte to be implement in debate; and this is helpful for students to be more active in speaking.
