Increasing Students’ Speaking English Skill by Using Throwing Dice Game at the Eighth Grade of MTS Mambaul Ulum Batu Gungsing Palengaan Pamekasan

The background of the study in this research was based on the students’ difficulties in speaking. Some of the reasons were the method of the English teaching process was not interesting, and low motivation from the teacher. Those will be difficult for students to achieve the teaching and learning target. In order to solve this problem the teacher should have creativity in teaching. The using of throwing dice game can be an alternative way to solve students’ difficulties in speaking.
The aim of this study isto increase the students’ speaking skill at the eighth grade of MTs Mambaul Ulum Batu Gungsing Palengaan Pamekasan by usingthrowing dice game in speaking subject. The study was designed as Collaborative Classroom Action Research. It was done collaboratively with one of the English teachers.
The subjects of this study was students of eighth grade that consisted of 25 students in academic year 2014/2015. This study was done in one cycle that consisted of two meetings for about one month by four stages: planning, acting, observing, and reflecting. In the planning stage, the researcher designed lesson plans, research instruments, and the criteria of success. In implementing the action, the researcher conducted the research based on the lesson plan. In observing the action, the researcher collected the data through observation checklist, field notes, and questionnaires. In reflecting the action, the researcher determined whether the research success or not.
The result of the test in cycle I showed that the treatment was successful because the criteria of success of the implementation of throwing dice game can be said successful if 50% of students’ reached standard minimum score that was 60. In line with this result, the researcher concluded that the research improved students’ speaking skill.
From the result of this study, it can be stated that the using of throwing dice game are effective and very interesting. It can be seen from the significant improvement of students test result during cycle I. Therefore,the researcher recommends the English teachers to use throwing dice game as an alternative way in improving students’speaking skill especially when the students get difficulties in speaking skill.
