Speaking is a productive skill. It involves putting a message together, communicating the message, and interacting with other people. It is different with the other skill, speaking is one skill that convey a language through speech in interacting directly. Most of learner has many problem in speaking because speaking skill we not only focus on how it pronounce in speaking, how it use good grammar in speaking, how it done fluency in speaking, and how the idea will transver. But all of them can happen when student fell confident to start their speaking.
Self confidence is one of main problem for student in Speaking at English department of Second Semester STAIN Pamekasan. Speaking need vocabulary, structure, fluency, all of these will not happen if the students have low self confidence. They commonly feel fear when convey their language in speaking. The negative beliefs always appear in their mind when practice their speaking. So they are difficult in sharing experience in speaking class.
In this research, the researcher will investigate the implementation of positive reinforcement to students’ self confidence at English department of Second Semester STAIN Pamekasan. positive reinforcement is a kind of reinforcement that show in positive thing namely with give someone’s want or reward. Here, the researcher will explain two objective of study to prove that positive reinforcement has important to rebuilt student’ self confidence in speaking, there are the kind of positive reinforcement, and the implementation positive reinforcement,
The researcher used qualitative descriptive as the method of research. Qualitative research is an inquiry approach useful for exploring and understanding a central phenomenon. The researcher collected of the data by using observation, interview, and documentation.
Based on the result of this research above can be concluded that that implementation of positive reinforcement has many important to rebuilt students’ self confidence in speaking. So, the researcher suggests the educator to implement positive reinforcement as motivation strategy to attract students’ brave in speaking.
