The Teachers’ Strategies in Teaching English Subject for Students’ Autism at SLB Negeri Saronggi Sumenep

English is very important mastered by everyone, as well as students with autism who have the same rights with the other children and also require equal education including learning English Increasing number of people with autism do not balanced with public awareness of the uniqueness and their special needs. such as their necessary to acquire education including learning English. To teach students who have physical and mental disorders is not easy especially in teaching English because there are among them who have different social behaviors. So it takes special skills and abilities of teachers in selecting methods , strategies and approaches that suitable with the child's condition
Based on the statement above, there are three problem statements in this study. Firstly, what are the strategies used by the teacher in teaching English subject for students’ autism at SDLB Negeri Saronggi. Secondly, what are the difficulties faced by the teacher in teaching English subject for students’ autism at SDLB Negeri Saronggi Sumenep. Thirdly, how to overcome the problems that faced by teachers in teaching English subject for students’ autism at SDLB Negeri Saronggi Sumenep.
The goal of this study is to know what are the strategies used by the teacher in teaching English subject for students’ autism at SDLB Negeri Saronggi Sumenep, to identify the difficulties faced by the teacher in teaching English subject for students’ autism at SDLB Negeri Saronggi Sumenep, to know how to overcome the problems that faced by teachers in teaching English subject for students’ autism at SDLB Negeri Saronggi Sumenep.
In this study used descriptive research because it is word, images, and it isn’t number. In collecting the data, the researcher used observation, interview, and documentation. The observation of this research was done from 13th till 16th April, 2015 at SDLB Negeri Saronggi Sumenep. Therefore, the researcher conducting the observation and collect the data of documentation during teaching and learning process such as the students name list, lesson plan, etc. Then, the researcher interviews to the English teacher and also to the one of therapists. After, the researcher collects the data. The researcher analysis of them. They are data reduction, data display and conclusion drawing/ verification.
The result showed that teaching strategies applied by the teacher in teaching English for students autism are Exposition learning strategy or expository that combine with individual learning strategy. Even the discovery learning strategy is also ever applied by the teacher, but the result of the teaching and learning are not good enough. We can prove it with the result of students task. When the teacher use discovery learning strategy, there are two students with autism that write the wrong letter. It is different when the teacher use Exposition learning strategy or expository, all of students with autism write the words correctly.
Based on the result above, it is suggested for the English teacher who can give them interesting game relating to the topic on main-activity or post-activity stage to make them remind on it easily and also the researcher suggested teacher can give extra time outside the class to students who get difficulties in learning process for helping them to solve their difficulties. For the parents must be smart to choose a suitable school to their children and always make coordination with the teacher in order to know the development of their children And for next researcher, the researcher hopes that there will be more researchers which are interested in researching special education. And the researcher also suggested to the education government ministry reviewed again about the curriculum for special schools especially for English language subject.
