The Implementation of Inductive Approach in Teaching English Grammar at the Twelfth Grade Students of SMAN 1 Pademawu - Pamekasan

Grammar is one of the basic aspects which must be learned by the students. By grammar, a language learner will be able to develop his or her language competence. Every time a learner writes something or speaks English well, the learner is being judged for learner’s grammar. Language teachers who adopt definition focus on grammar as a set of forms and rules. They teach grammar by explaining the forms and rules and then drilling students on them. It will produce boredom because it takes learners a long time to understand grammar. In this case, the English teacher uses inductive approach in teaching English grammar. It is to stimulate a learner in understanding a material that will be learnt.
There are three problems of study in this research; the first, how does the English teacher implement the inductive approach in teaching English grammar at the twelfth grade students of SMAN 1 Pademawu - Pamekasan. The second, what are problems faced by the twelfth grade students of SMAN 1 Pademawu – Pamekasan when the English teacher used inductive approach in teaching English grammar. The last, how does the English teacher solve the problems faced by the twelfth grade students of SMAN 1 Pademawu – Pamekasan when the English teacher used inductive approach in teaching English grammar.
The writer used descriptive qualitative. The data was taken from the observation in teaching learning process, interview to the teacher and students and documentation to support the data. To analyze the data, the researcher used data reduction, data display and verification.
While observing the teaching process, the researcher knew that in teaching English grammar, the teacher implemented the inductive approach with exposing some examples to the students, to stimulate them find out the pattern. In this approach, the students have to think a lot because the teacher just gives stimulus by giving sample of language.
The result of the study showed that inductive approach was implemented by the English teacher it is with giving some examples at the beginning then generalizing rules from the given examples. The inductive approach is good for students because it will train them to be more active in teaching English grammar.
