The Correlation of English Club Students’ Participation and the Students’ Speaking Performance at the Eleventh Grade of Science Class in MA Matsaratul Huda Panempan Pamekasan

English is simple word which becomes International language in the world which has any skills such as listening, reading, writing, and speaking. But, the researcher just focuses on speaking skill. Speaking is one of basic skills in English where it is an important aspect acquired in learning a foreign language. English Club is one of activity in which done in the outside of learning-hour standard curriculum by students or university students. In this study, the researcher will conduct a research about the correlation of English Club students’ participation and the students’ speaking performance at the eleventh grade of science class in MA Matsaratul Huda Panempan Pamekasan.
This research has two problems. The first is to know whether the English Club students’ participation have a positive correlation to the students’ speaking performance at the eleventh grade of science class in MA Matsaratul Huda Panempan Pamekasan. The second is to find out the significance correlation of English club students’ participation to the students’ speaking performance at the eleventh grade of science class in MA Matsaratul Huda Panempan Pamekasan.
In this case, the researcher used quantitative approach by using correlational design. The population is at the eleventh grade students of science class in MA Matsaratul Huda Panempan Pamekasan, which contains of 25 students. The researcher uses questionnaire, test, and documentation as the instruments of gathering data and uses product moment’s pattern to analyse the data.
The result of this research showed that the eleventh grade students of science class by joinning English Club have better performance on students’ speaking at MA Matsaratul Huda Panempan Pamekasan because the alternative hypothesis is accepted, which the significance statistically is 5%. It proved that the obtained r11 is higher than the value of rtable (r11: 0,512 > rtable: 0,396).
Based on the result above, the researcher suggested for MA Matsaratul Huda Panempan Pamekasan can implement English Club continually and should give more facilities. Suggestion for the teachers should have high motivation to the students who cannot interest and lack of confident to speak up English. Suggestion for the students must be serious and pay more attentions during English teaching learning activities especially on English speaking. And for the future researcher which the result of the research can be used as a reference in conducting a research which related to the English Club to achieve students’ English speaking by using different research design.
