Learning style is the tendency of students in the learning process to obtain an
approach to learning are in accordance with the demands of learning in the
classroom / school. Students cannot be separated with learning styles in getting
lessons or information. Among students with one another have different learning
styles. There are several styles of learning that learning style Visual, Auditory and
kinesthetic. Among the three there are more prominent. And every third student
has no way to learn it. In this discussion more focused on visual style.
Based on the case above, it can be appointed two research problems of this
study in which they are: Do the Students learning style have a positive correlation
on the students Vocabulary mastery at the eleventh grade of SMA N 1 Gapura
Sumenep in Academic Year 2014 – 2015 and How significance is the corelation
between students’ learning style and their vocabulary
In this research, Population of this research is the students of XI grade of
SMAN 1 Gapura, Sumenep. It about 199 student of 6 classes. The populations of
this research are class IPA 1 consists of 32 student. The researcher takes IPA 1
because it was determined by the school, the researcher take purposive sampling.
The researcher uses questionnare and test as the instruments of this research
to collect the data. The questionnare is conducted to know whether the students
learning style (visual learner). The researcher uses the questionnare that is
alternative answer by using “often”, “sometime” and “Seldom” and test is
conducted to know English vocabulary mastery.
The result of this research showed that the students of the at the eleventh grade
of SMA N 1 Gapura Sumenep on learning style have positive correlation on the
student vocabulary mastery because the alternative hypothesis which was stated
that there is correlation of students’ learning style (Visual Learner) and their
vocabulary of the eleventh grade of SMA N 1 Gapura Sumenep is accepted. It
proves that the obtained “rxy” value of this research is 0,362, and however, 0,349
for the value of coefficient value of correlation “r” product moment or t-table in
significant level 5% with degree of freedom 30. “r” product moment is higher
than the value of coefficient value of correlation “r” product moment that is 0,349
(t-hitung > t-table or 0,362> 0,349) in significant level 5% .
Based on the result above, it is suggested for the English teacher should
present the material of vocabulary mastery more enjoyable, relaxed, and
understandable ways. For the future researcher that The result of the research can
be used as reference or input to conduct further a better research dialing with
similar topic by using different research design.
