Reading is receptive skill. To read is the need of college students. In discrepancy, even some of English students do not have adequate skill in transferring messages from English to their native language, as it is needed to help them make easier in a reference. Thereby, any kinds of aid will make them survive to keep endeavor in comprehending the texts. Such of helps are openning the dictionary, questioning to seatmate, texting friend, openning a note, mental image, and concluding. The condition described is seen urgent for the students, where they applied some of theories of translation, open dictionary is named as word for word translation, in attempt to comprehend the English text.
To focus on the case elaborated above, researcher used qualitative research approach. He used purposeful sampling concerning on the study. A class for Reading 2 ongoing was seen appropriate to this research because it was conceptually specified for high graded students who were more then they who were not in. That was of course with varieties of condition. Therefore, descriptive qualitative research was used as it was considered the most appropriate kind of research to explain and describe particular condition found on the research.
The research result showed that most of the students in A-Class had the same difficulty, knowledge of words, and applied some of the theoretical frameworks of translation: word for word, the most frequently used, in gaining an understanding to comprehend the text. A few students used concluding the whole words they knew in a sentence even paragraph to identify the meaning of unfamiliar words, then to get comprehension through that way. In that case, the framework of translation used by them was communicative translation. Thus, theoretical frameworks of translation have beneficial for the ongoing process of reading text.
Referring to the research result, the researcher suggests to all lecturers that good quality in transferring experiences may need another one, as this research proved that theories of translation may play crucial role in reading, so far it was seen urgent for some certain reasons.
