In teaching learning process of speaking requires the ability of teacher to create optimal learning condition in order students feel joyful while learning, such as by applying semicircle seating classroom arrangement. It is one of teachers’ strategy to create new application of seating arrangement to get all students are involved, pay close attention, respect, and show their ability actively in teaching learning process.
This research has three important issues. First, how does the teacher implement the semicircle seating classroom arrangement in speaking class at the first semester of English Teaching Learning Program of STAIN Pamekasan. Second, what are the students’ responses of implementing the semicircle seating classroom arrangement in speaking class at the first semester of English Teaching Learning Program of STAIN Pamekasan. Third, how can the implementation of semicircle seating classroom arrangement help the students to be more active at the first semester of English Teaching Learning Program of STAIN Pamekasan.
The objectives are: First, to investigate the implementation of semicircle seating classroom arrangement in speaking class at the first semester of English Teaching Learning Program. Second, to find out the students’ responses of implementing semicircle seating classroom arrangement in speaking class at the first semester of English Teaching Learning Program of STAIN Pamekasan. Third, to explain the implementation of semicircle seating classroom arrangement in speaking class can help the students to be more active at the first semester of English Teaching Learning Program of STAIN Pamekasan.
This research uses qualitative approach and descriptive research method. The qualitative is to describe the data in the form of words. The data was obtained from observation, interview and documentation of English lecturer and students at the first semester of English Teaching Learning Program. The data were analyzed by descriptive analysis and checked for validity by triangulation.
The result showed that teaching speaking by implementing semicircle seating classroom arrangement is good strategy to create new condition of learning to avoid students’ bore and students who will try to escape from teacher attention. They can be more active to speak because they feel enjoy, happy, interested, surprised, and not nervous to show up their ability in front of their friends. It is supported by having large area which attract them in focusing, paying close attention and having chances to perform their ability actively.
Based on the result above, it is suggested for the English teachers to improve their classroom condition by using semicircle seating classroom arrangement. Then, it is suggested for students to always pay close attention and be active student by showing up the ability through good performance in front of the class.
