Learning the rules of English language is one of the important material for young learner, especially the basic rules of grammar namely simple present tense. It could help them to be easy in expressing their idea. However, the instructors of Gemma Education Center (GEC) always finds the students get difficulty in arranging simple present tense sentence, especially nominal and verbal sentence. The instructors tries to solve the problem by implementing a new technique made by them namely mission in straw game of their learning process. The researcher thinks it is interesting to know how the learning process run in the classrom, the responses of the students and how this new game could help the students in understanding to arrange the sentence well.
This research focuses on three problems. First, How are the implementation steps of mission in straw game of young lerners’ learning process of simple present tense at the 4th grade of Gemma Education Center (GEC) Prenduan Sumenep. Second, What are young learners’ responses to the mission in straw game while learning simple present tense at the 4th grade of Gemma Education Center (GEC) Prenduan Sumenep. And the third, How can mission in straw help young learners’ to understand simple present tense subject at the 4th grade of Gemma Education Center (GEC) Prenduan Sumenep.
This research objectives are to describe the implementation steps of mission in straw game of young learners’ learning simple present tense at the 4th grade of Gemma Education Center (GEC) Prenduan Sumenep, to identify the young learners’ responses to the mission in straw game while learning simple present tense at the 4th grade of Gemma Education Center (GEC) Prenduan Sumenep. to explain how mission in straw game can help young learners’ to understand simple present tense subject at the 4th grade of Gemma Education Center (GEC) Prenduan Sumenep.
The researcher employs qualitative descriptive as the approach. She collects the data by using interview, observation, and documentation. The researcher interviews the students to know their responses and their understanding and verified it to the instructor of the class. Then she observe to know the learning process of the students in the classroom. The results show that the learning process was running well, the students follow the learning process actively, they could play, singing a song and have fun while learning the simple present tense using mission in straw game and also they responsive to the game. They are enjoyable, interested and pleased eventhough some of them uninterested to the game.
At the first meeting, ten of twelve students understand the simple present tense well because they could arrange the sentence correctly based on the rules of simple present tense eventhough two of the ten students arranged unlogical sentence. On the other hand, the second meeting was successful. All the students arrange the sentence correctly.
