The Effect of Co-op Co-op Technique on Students’ Reading Comprehension Achievement at the Eighth Grade of MTs Miftahul Ulum Proppo Pamekasan

Reading is a skill of English which has a main role in English Classes. It is one of subjects provided students in comprehending text. As a matter of fact, in Junior High School there are many reading materials which provide a diversity of information, in order to comprehend the texts, they need a technique which is approporiate with reading, in order that the students can understand the whole content of text as well as its meaning. Such as Co-op Co-op technique. By using this technique the students will be more intereted in reading, because they are formed into group and subgroup so that they can be more cooperative among the class.
The main problems of this research are Do the students’ taught by using Co-op Co-op Technique have better achievement on their reading comprehension and is there any significant effect of Co-op Co-op technique on Students’ reading comprehension achievement. The instruments to collect the data are test and documentation. The technique of data analysis used is statistical analysis of “t” test.
The result of this research shows that Co-op Co-op technique has significant effect on students’ reading comprehension at the eighth grade of MTs Miftahul Ulum Proppo Pamekasan. It is proven by the result of data analysis and hypothesis testing. It shows after treatment using Co-op Co-op technique the students’ score is higher than before giving treatment, the mean value of pre-test is 56,8, and post-test is 76, 8, the difference is 20 points while the result of “t” test found that the value of “t” test is higher than t table. The value of “t” test is 6,33 while the critical value in df 21 on 1% is 2,83, on 5% is 2,08.
Based on the result of the research. It can be concluded that using Co-op Co-op technique in reading comprehension gives significant effect on students’ reading comprehension achievement. Therefore, the researcher suggests the English teacher at that school to use this technique in teaching English Reading because this strategy is useful for the students in increasing their readig comprehension.
