The Grammatical Errors in Telling Past Activities on speaking skill at the Eighth Grade students of SPM Islam An-Nidhomiyah Pamekasan

English is the international language which can be used by all of people to communicate around the world. In Indonesia, English is learnt as a foreign language. The students sometimes face some difficulties when the target language has different elements from the native language. These differences cause students make some grammatical errors when using it.
This thesis discusses about grammatical errors. It describes the grammatical errors in telling past activities on speaking skill at the eighth grade students of SMP Islam An-Nidhomiyah Pamekasan. In this case the researcher has two research focuses, the first is what are the grammatical errors made by the eighth grade students of SMP Islam An-Nidhomiyah Pamekasan while telling past activities? And the second, what are the factors caused the eighth grade students of SMP Islam An-Nidhomiyah Pamekasan made grammatical errors?
In this research, the researcher uses a qualitative approach with descriptive design. The data was obtained by observing the students speaking skill when they tell about past activities in front of the class, so from the observation the researcher describes and analyzes what grammatical errors made by them and then the researcher does interview to the teacher and the students to analyze the causes of students made some grammatical errors. Besides that, the researcher uses documentations in collecting the data.
The result of the research indicated that there are many students did some errors when they tell about their past activities, because in this case student should use a correct grammar when doing a monologue spoken. They often produced some grammatical errors in their speaking such as omission, addition, misinformation, and misordering errors. In omission form the researcher found 25 errors, 19 addition errors, 9 misordering errors and 48 miss formation errors. It is the highest errors than others.
The researcher also found the causes of the errors made by them. Based on the findings of the analysis and the interview to the students and the teacher, the researcher determines that is resulted from both the mother tongue Madura and Indonesia influence (interference errors) and target language causes (intralanguage errors). Therefore, the students often produced English same as their own language that they use in their daily life.
