In this study the researcher introduces about two approaches in teaching grammar, that are inductive and deductive approach. While at MA Qurratul Uyun the teacher usually uses deductive approach in teaching grammar, which is the teacher as main factor in teaching learning process, so that student will fell bored. And students at MA Qurratul Uyun Trasak Larangan had difficulty in learning Passive Voice. So this research expected to be alternative pathway for English teacher in teaching grammar especially in teaching passive voice at Senior high School.
In this study there are two problems of study. The first is Do the students who are taught using inductive approach have better grammar achievement in learning passive voice than those who are taught using deductive approach at the tenth grade of MA Qurratul Uyun Trasak Larangan Pamekasan. Second, How far is a significant difference between the result of the students who are taught using inductive approach than those who are taught using deductive approach in learning passive voice at the tenth grade of MA Qurratul Uyun Trasak Larangan Pamekasan.
The population of this research is all of students at the tenth grade of MA Qurratul Uyun. While the sample of this research is the tenth grade students of MA Qurratul Uyun. There are 31 students of tenth grade at MA Qurratul Uyun. In this research uses quantitative approach, while research design that is used in this research is pre-experimental Research instruments that used in this study are test and documentation. Test is used to measure students grammar achievement. While documentation is used to support and complete the data such as lesson plan, pre-test and post-test scores, photo, etc.
The result of this research is there is significantly difference between students who taught by deductive approach than those who are taught using inductive approach in learning Passive Voice because the t-value is higher than t-table in significance alpha 5% The score of t-value in this research is 3,737565 and the score of t-table is 2,04 in level significance 5% with degree of freedom 30 (3,737565 > 2,04).
From these results, it is suggested to the English teachers to use an appropriate approach in teaching English especially in teaching grammar, in this case using inductive approach since inductive approach is better than deductive approach. It is also expected for further researchers to continue this research on the other grammar items.
