Grammar is the structure foundation of English ability, to express ourselves. The English teacher of MTs Empu Gennah Kertagennah Laok Kadur Pamekasan hopes that the students can understand and comprehend what the teacher gives to students especially the material is simple present and past tense, but it is not as easy as the teacher has explained, the felt difficulty in constructing sentences.
There is research focuses in this study, How the students ability to construct verbal and nominal sentences of simple present and past tense at the seventh grade of MTs Empu Gennah Kertagennah Laok Kadur Pamekasan. This study is to know the students ability in constructing verbal and nominal sentences of simple present and past tense at the seventh grade of MTs Empu Gennah Kertagennah Laok Kadur Pamekasan.
The design of the study is descriptive qualitative. The data are going to how the students ability in constructing nominal sentence of simple present and past tense the data are taken from observation, interview and documentation.
The results of the study are, the researcher can say that , the English teacher of MTs Empu Gennah Kertagennah Laok Kadur Pamekasan. The teacher strategy is classically . The teacher just explain about the topic and gives example the students work. After the students do work,the teacher explains again. In order that the students comprehend more to the material what the teacher gives. Finally, the teacher never forgets to ask the students to come forward to try making constructing verbal and nominal sentence clearly. And the result, students ability in constructing verbal and nominal sentence of simple present and past tense is some students did not understand to construct verbal and nominal sentence clearly, indeed the students have many mistakes in constructing verbal and nominal sentence especially in using to be and adverb of time.
Based on the result above, the suggestions are addressing to the students. The students must improve their ability in constructing verbal and nominal sentence. The teacher must improve the strategy in teaching grammar because it can influence to the students ability.
