In learning English, there are four skills. They are listening, reading, speaking, and writing. But both of them are need vocabulary.Vocabulary isa core component of language proficiency and provides much of the basis for how well learners speak, listen, read and write.So as an English teacher should choose the best way to make vocabulary class more interactive and enjoy.Thesaurus work techniqueis one of technique that the English teacher in MTs Al Makkiyah Kamoning Sampang has implemented to teaching vocabulary subject at seventhgrade.
There is research problem in this study. Is there any significant effect of Thesaurus Work technique to improve the students’ English Vocabulary Masteryat seventh grade of MTs. Al Makkiyah Kamoning Sampang
This research uses quantitative approach with experimental research because the variables of this research is discrete manipulated, which have cause-effect relationship and it can measured the degree of effectiveness. While kind of research, the researcher usespre-experimental research, namely one group pretest-posttest design because the researcher wants to use one single group in giving treatment to the sample. To collect the data, the researcher usestwo tests, namely pretest and posttest, and documentation by taking picture in the teaching learning process.
The result of this research found that the effect of thesaurus work technique to improve students’ vocabulary mastery at seventh grade of MTs Al Makkiyah Kamoning Sampang uses three steps. They are pre-teaching where the teacher gives greeting and warming up, whilst-teaching where the teacher applies thesaurus work technique, and post-teaching where the teacher gives conclusion and closes the lesson. Thesaurus work technique enhances students’ vocabulary, it is proved when the students find out and look up the synonym or antonym then part of speech of the words.
Based on the result of research above, thesaurus work technique is effective to be implemented in the teaching vocabulary because it can enhanceand develop students’ vocabulary mastery. The teacher also implemented this technique well. Therefore, the teaching learning process of vocabulary was success.
