The Use of Chain Drill Technique on Students’ Speaking Skill at the eighth grade of Junior High School 1 Pademawu Pamekasan

English is the main foreign language. It is taught to the students of Pre elementary school up to the university. There are four skill to be mastered for students who studied English. Those are, speaking, reading, writing and listening. But speaking is a major skill in English subject. So, as a teacher should use a good technique especially in teaching students speaking skill. Chain Drill Technique that have been used in teaching students speaking skill at the eighth grade C class of Junior High School 1 Pademawu pamekasan.
There are three problems in this study. The first, How the teacher uses Chain Drill technique on student’s speaking skill at the eighth grade of Junior High School 1 Pademawu Pamekasan. The second, What are the weaknesses of the use Chain Drill Technique on speaking skill at eighth grade of Junior High School 1 Pademawu Pamekasan. And The third, What are the advantages of the use Chain Drill Technique on speaking skill at eighth grade of Junior High School 1 Pademawu Pamekasan.
Based on the research problems above, there are three objectives in this study. The first, to know how the teacher uses Chain Drill technique on students’ speaking skill. The second, to know the weaknesses of the use Chain Drill Technique on speaking skill at eighth grade of Junior High School 1 Pademawu Pamekasan. The third, to know the advantages of the use Chain Drill Technique on speaking skill at eighth grade of Junior High School 1 Pademawu Pamekasan.
In this research used a qualitative approach. It is a descriptive research because it is describe the use of Chain Drill technique on students speaking skill at the Eighth Grade of Junior High School 1 Pademawu Pamekasan, the weaknesses of the use Chain Drill Technique on speaking skill at eighth grade of Junior High School 1 Pademawu Pamekasan and the advantages of the use Chain Drill Technique on speaking skill at eighth grade of Junior High School 1 Pademawu Pamekasan. To collect the data the researcher use an interview, observation directly and documentation.
The result of this research found that the use of chain drill technique on students’ speaking skill at the eighth grade of SMPN 1 Pademawu Pamekasan was success. It is proved with students’ participation during the teacher uses this technique to teach speaking skill. It also has weaknesses and advantages on the teaching speaking skill. The weakness of this technique, the students feel bored and they are not interested with the material. While the advantage, the technique can help teacher explain the material easily.
