Reading is one of language skills that has important role to help the students in learning language. Reading is a way to get information from book, newspaper and from other media. But some students consider that reading is a boring activity. It usually depends on the ways of teacher if teacher can implement a good teaching model or material text and manage the class, because the teacher has important role in teaching and learning process. The teacher used folktale and legend as material text to improve students’ reading comprehension. The students do not only need to learn reading material that is presented by the teacher, but also they can understand a practice it in front of the class.
There are two focuses of study in this research. The first is How does the teacher implement of folktale and legend as material text for students’ narrative text in reading comprehension at the eighth grade of Junior High School MTs. Miftahul Ulum Lengser Dharma Camplong and the second, How does the students’ responses through the implementation of folktale and legend as material text for students narrative text in reading comprehension at the eighth grade of Junior High School MTs. Miftahul Ulum Lengser Dharma Camplong.
This research is conducted to describe the implementation of folktale and legend as material text for students’ narrative text in reading comprehension at the eight grade of Junior High School MTs. Miftahul Ulum Lengser Dharma Camplong and To know students’ responses through the implementation of folktale and legend as material text for students narrative text in reading comprehension at the eighth grade of Junior High School MTs. Miftahul Ulum Lengser Dharma Camplong.
In this research, the researcher used qualitative approach and the kind of research is descriptive to give description about The Implementation of Folktale and legend as Material Text for Students’ Narrative Text in Reading Comprehension at the Eight Grade of Junior High School MTs. Miftahul Ulum Lengser Dharma Camplong. Then, the researcher used three instruments. They are observation, interview and documentation. It was to obtain the data needed based on two focuses of study.
The result of this research showd that folktale and legend as material text was success to be implemented in teaching reading especially for the eight grade students of MTs. Miftahul Ulum Lengser Dharma Camplong. It is based on the steps the implementation of folktale and legend as materialtext for students’ narrative text in reading comprehension in chapter II. The teacher did it in two meeting, the first meeting on Tuesday 1 April 2014 and the second meeting on 5 April 2014. The result of research is also proven with the positive students’ responses that showed the students were very interested to the teaching and learning process through the implementation of folktale and legend as material text.
Based on the result of the researcher, folktale and legend as material text very affective to be implemented in teaching reading. It can make the students more active. It is shown with the good responses of students through the implementation folktale and legend as material text. because they can share and teach material learned for their classmate.
