Learning second language or English language does not the same as learning first language or mother tongue. Learning mother tongue is not influenced by other language but it is different for students who are learning English. The process of learning English is influenced by their mother tongue as their first language and it causes an errors. They make error both in speaking and writing. And also certainly there are many factors caused it.
The problem that writer want to search are (a) what are the errors made by students in writing subject at eleventh grade of MA Az-Zubair tlanakan pamekasan?, and (b) how does the factors causes students make errors in writing subject at eleventh grade of MA Az-Zubair tlanakan Pamekasan?,
The objective of this research are (a) to find out the errors made by students in writing subject at eleventh grade of MA Az-Zubair tlanakan Pamekasan, (b) to explain factors cause students make errors in writing subject at eleventh grade of MA Az-Zubair tlanakan Pamekasan.
This research is designed by using a qualitative approach, and the design of this study is descriptive. Sources of data can be obtained from observation, interview, and documentation. The informants is the headmaster, teacher, students, and also the students’ writing work. And to validate the data, the writer use triangulation. Setting of this research is MA Az-Zubair tlanakan Pamekasan.
The result showed that many students make errors in morphological error, exactly in irreguler past tense, omission errors, mis-ordering errors, ambiguous errors, mis-formation errors, and also addition. And the factor cause the students make error is transfer of structure, overgeneralization, and also interference errors.
Based on the result above, it is suggested for English teacher to be more focus to the students especially in grammar and the strategy used by the teacher. It is also suggested for the students at MA Az-Zubair tlanakan pamekasan to study hard about English especially in making writing, grammar/structure, and also the students have to memorize the vocabulary, And for the institution, the writer suggest that, the institution should have facilities that complete, like laboratorium, grammar book and also dictionary. So that, the students can read them.
