A Contrastive Analysis of Action Verb Differences and Similarities between English and Indonesian on Fable Story

Language is the system of sound and words used by human or speech community to express their feelings, thoughts, and idea. Language is very important because people to communicate and get interaction each other use it. They interact by using language either oral speech or written speech. A verb which has important elements that cannot be separated from other word in making sentences or paragraph. In English, there were two verbs of the sentence pattern. They are known by intransitive verb and transitive verb. Fortunately, Indonesian language has quite the same concept with English of verb of sentence pattern, which has transitive verb and intransitive verb.
This study focuses on the finding the action verb on fable story. The differences and similarities of the action verb on fable story between English and Indonesia language while the fable story is taken from English and Indonesian language.
This research used qualitative approach, while the research method applied in this study is contrastive analysis. The qualitative approach here is to describe the data in the form of words. The data is taken from fable story of English and Indonesian. In this study, the kind of this research is content analysis. The researcher has searched, collected, and read the data that contain action verb then analyze them in detail about the action verb similarities and differences on English-Indonesian fable story.
The result of the this reseach that the researcher has found many differences and similarities of action verb that appear in chapter 4 of this research after reading and analyzing the fable story both of English and Indonesian language. The kind of action verbs between English and Indonesian on fable are transitive and intransitive verb. The differences that in English, verb as an action verb has three typed such as VI, example take, VII, example took, and VIII, example taken. It is contrast with Indonesian language which does not has type such as in English language. It is sometime preceded by meng then ended by i and kan. Whereas the similarities are 1) using transitive verb; 2) using intransitive verb; 3) action verb as subject complement; 4) verb as primary purpose of sentence.
